Book Review: The Good Lawyer

Book Review of The Good Lawyer by Thomas Benigno

This was a very captivating book that held my attention from page one through out the entire book. The story is billed as based on a true story and it feels that way, In the way a true story has grit and digs deep. I found this to be captivating and well written story.

Our story is about a young lawyer named Nick Mannino and his struggle to prove he is better than the mobster dominated family he grew up in. As a new Bronx Legal Aid Attorney he gets the worst of the worst cases and it seems they all have to do with sex crimes. It’s 1982 and he gets the Spiderman rapist case. A mad man has had New York City living in fear. After meeting the man arrested for these crimes he just can’t believe he’s guilty. While digging deeper, into the case he finds that his family’s past and his case collide and may reveal the true identity of the sadistic sociopath behind the Spiderman’s rampage.

He is challenged at every turn and comes face-to-face with his greatest fear, how far will he go to win. Will he sacrifice every principle he believes in and embrace his family’s mafia past and become judge, jury, and executioner?

On my scale of 1 to 5, 1 being don’t bother and 5 a true page turner. I give The Good Lawyer a 4.5
