Book review: Burn, James Patterson

James Patterson is and will always be one of my favorite suspense writers and his books around Detective Michael Bennett and his family are always a great read. In Burn the Bennett finally returns to New York City after putting away ruthless crime lord whose organization was bent on destroying him and his family. Back in New York after being away in hiding for a year he finds himself in what is the most unsettling, horrific case of his career. He is assigned to a Outreach Squad in Harlem, where he receives an unusual call: a man claims to have seen a group of well-dressed men holding a bizarre party in a condemned building. With no clear crime or evidence, Bennett dismisses the report at first but assigns one of his team to look into the report. When a charred body is found in that very same building, he is forced to take the demented caller seriously and is drawn into an underground criminal world of terrifying depravity.

While working that case he is also assigned to lead a task force, and leave his new team behind while he leads the investigation into repeated and professional jewelry heist’s happening throughout the city. All the while dealing with the possibility of losing one of his 10 adopted children.

Burn is action packed as all of James Patterson’s novels are and this one does get pretty dark. All in all this is a great read and one that I knocked fast and went back and read some chapters over again.

On my must read scale of 1 don’t bother and 5 a true page turner. I give Burn a: 4.5 It’s a great story line full of action and suspense that will draw you in.
